| Before Courtney
Cox became our favorite friend she was going to be an architecture or
interior design while she studied at Mount Vernon College. Thank god after
a year she dropped out and became a model. She was signed with the prestigious
Ford Modeling Agency. She appeared on covers of “Tiger Beat”
and “Little Miss”. Soon she moved on to commercials for Maybeline,
Noxema, New York Telephone Company and Tampax. She was the first woman
to ever say “period” on television for a Tampax commercial.
On breaks she took acting lessons. In 1984 she was picked to be in the
Bruce Springsteen video “Dancer in the Dark”. In 1987 she
got the break of the life time when out of thousands of young women she
was picked to be Michael J. Fox’s girlfriend in “Family
Ties”. After “Family Ties”
ended Courtney went on to do minor role in movies. In 1994 she starred
along side Jim Carrey in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”
which turned out to be a surprise hit. That same year she starred in a
little mid-season replacement show called “Friends”.
When Cox auctioned, she auditioned for the role of Rachel, she got the
role of Monica. The show has been going on for years. In 1996 Courtney
took the role of Gale Weathers in the low budget horror film “Scream”.
The movie went on to gross more than 100 million dollars and spawned two
sequels. In those movies she met co-star David Arquette. On June 12th
1999 they married. When she announced in September, 1999 that her new
legal and professional surname would become Courtney Cox Arquette, the
cast and producers of her Friends TV show also added "Arquette"
to their own names in the opening credits of the 1999 season's premiere
episode.
